Marcus shows how composers have used this symmetry and demonstrates how Ernst Chladni revealed extraordinary symmetrical shapes in the vibrations of a metal Plate.

Marcus du Sautoy is Charles Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University.
